The pinning of customizable race bibs generates stress that does not need to be accentuated by a difficult to achieve objective. The beginner runner is also by definition the one who knows himself the least well.
Simply finishing his race is the goal that every runner must first set for his first competition. The chronometric objective will be the result of structured and adapted training.
Essential to structure your training to a minimum to avoid any inconvenience in the race. Number of weeks of preparation (at least four for a 10 km, eight for a half-marathon), number of sessions per week (minimum three), type of sessions (alternate jogging and sessions with changes of pace), nothing should not be overlooked…
You have to get informed, drink the advice given on Runners.fr, chat with experienced runners, dare to get closer to a club! And above all, start by evaluating your starting level, your potential and your training paces.
The big day is approaching. Zen! Anticipating means avoiding unnecessary panic attacks.
Small non-exhaustive list of these little things that you (absolutely) have to think about:
• Choice of outfit: the weather forecast will guide this choice. The new shoes will have already been tested on a few training sessions…
• Food: avoid alcohol and fatty foods the week before the event. The diet for the last three days will include a higher share of slow carbohydrates without being excessive either. The pasta party the day before is desired but must not turn into an orgy!
• Sleep: watch bedtime the week before the event and make sure you have your 8am! Race watch insomnia should not be dramatized, experienced runners are also victims. And the impact on performance will remain minimal.
• Timing: plan to arrive at least 1 hour before the start if the bib was collected the day before the event. 1h30 before the race if this has not been done – provided with 4 safety pins. No unnecessary stress, take the time to park, remove your bib (provided with your medical certificate!), pin the custom race bib printing on the jersey, locate the locker area where to leave your belongings, and the toilets. Clever to have in your pocket a few coins to spend in a bar in case of pressing desire and long queues at the toilets…

The running plan must be followed to the letter, and acceleration will be reserved for the last third of the race. The stride must remain fluid, the difficulties controlled.
